We keep talking about Windows Mobile and Symbian, about Android or Mac OS, so imagine my not-quite-so-big surprise when I heard Verizon Wireless is thinking outside the box. They are thinking about changing their preferred OS. They have just joined Limo Foundation which, and I quote, is an industry consortium dedicated to creating the first truly open, hardware-independent, Linux-based operating system for mobile devices end quote.
Great move I have to say. First smart phones will arrive in 2009 from simpler models, which should still be smart, to smarter smart phones. Verizon Wireless will not give up Android yet, and that’s quite frankly impossible to even assume right now. But in the future they are likely to develop a better and better Linux OS for their cell phone lines.
