Video: ICS Face Unlocking Tool Hands On

Ice Cream Sandwich is turning out to be the best version of Android yet, and we are highly excited to get our hands on this bad boy for a test run. There’s another video demo of ICS on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, this time it shows off the face unlock capabilities of the OS; it’s cool, but nothing that would be worth using after the hype has waded.

From what we can tell from the video, the face unlock feature looks ok-ish, this is something that could work if it was faster than simply typing in your password. There is also the problem of your phone unlocking when you have it at your face while making a call, no big problem since a simple update is able to solve this, but we thought it need mentioning. The face unlock option is not that secure either, and we would refrain anyone from using it for too long, here is why. Someone can take a photograph of yourself and use it to unlock your phone, it is that f***ing simple, so why the hell would you want to use this? Seriously, think about it. Imagine if you do not want your girlfriend snooping around the innards of your device; all she has to do is get a picture of you, use it to unlock your phone and voila, she’s texting your other chick and you’re in big trouble.

The face unlock tool is a admirable feature to play around with your friends, but it is not useful. If Google wants to add useful security option in Android, then we recommend a finger print reader, or just stick to what is tried and proven, passwords.
