Solar Cells Built Into A Smartphone Screen, How Cool Is That

There are quite a few solar powered mobile devices out there, but none of them are worth the money since no one is willing to put their cellular phones in direct or indirect sunlight to get a little bit of charge. This piece of solar technology by Arman Ahnood, could just be the trick needed to get solar powered cellular phones into the mainstream.
How it works? The solar panels lay safely behind the display, which first has to be an OLED. It gathers energy from wasted light emitted from the OLED display. Currently, the system is only able to average around 11% of energy captured, which is not enough to fully charge a battery. Since it is still in the testing stages, we hope Arman find a way to get around this little problem.
What we need next are better designed batteries instead of packing more power into future smartphones. Only Apple seems to realize that a longer battery life is what consumers need, rather than a super phone. That is why the company under-clocked the dual core processor in the iPhone 4S.
