Nokia Lumia 800, Nokia’s First Windows Phone Device Announced (update 2)
It is nearly here ladies and gentlemen, the first Nokia Windows Phone based handset is nearly here. A few moments ago at Nokia World 2011, Nokia took the time out to announce officially the Nokia Lumia 800, the very first Windows Phone from the Finnish giant. As you might already know, the Lumia 800 has a striking resemblance to the Nokia N9, that is because it comes with the same masterpiece design but only with a different OS.
During the presentation, Nokia went ahead to dub this device as the world’s first “real Windows Phone device”, we beg to differ but we are not about to spoil Nokia’s hype machine for this beautifully designed product. Apart from just announcing hardware, Nokia also went a step ahead and talked about exclusive software applications for its line of Windows Phone handsets, these you might never see on your non Nokia device.
First up, there is Nokia Maps with 3D navigation. This little sweetheart looks splendid on the Nokia Lumia’s AMOLED Clear Black display. We dig the option of downloading maps for offline navigation, this ultimately saves on data charges and us useful for those areas without a network connection. Next up, there’s Nokia Music, you might have heard of this on Symbian devices, well, it is here for Windows Phone competing directly with Microsoft Zune. Nokia Music comes with an unique feature called Mix Radio, this feature gives you some already preconfigured mixes for you to listen to. The biggest upside to this is, subscription is not a requirement to use Mix Radio, nor would you be required to log in.
Keep eyes peeled for more info from Nokia world. We are trying to keep up with all the great info popping out of this thing.
Update: Nokia Lumia 800 is priced at €420, or about $585, and can be pre-ordered right now. The device will launch across Europe in November, followed by Asia by the end of the year. Sadly, it appears folks in the US would have to wait until next year to get their hands on this, but can they wait?
