How to prevent WM 5.0 and ActiveSync from draining your battery Have you encountered this problem: You are buying brand new Pocket PC with Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system, but your device is loosing battery charge even while obviously it is doing nothing. This is due to the following fact: ActiveSync on Pocket PC side with its default settings does following - Pocket PC ActiveSync activates itself every five or ten minutes and tries to sync with the desktop.

So if you dont want your battery to be drain again, you need to prevent the ActiveSync from waking up the device every five minutes. To do this read the lines below and follow the instructions:

1. Start ActiveSync on your Pocket PC.
2. Tap "Menu", then "Add Server Source"
3. Configure a server source with a fake IP address, id and password - you can enter anything you like, it doesn't matter
4. After that you will notice that "Menu -> Schedule..." item is no longer greyed out.
5. Change your schedule to manual under both fields.
6. You can now delete your fake server - your changes to the schedule will remain in effect. ActiveSync will no longer be able to drain your battery.

ive done the exact steps outlined above to my palm treo 750. however it still runs without my consent and on top of that, it wont sync with my notebook. it keeps giving me errors. what does sync from my pc to phone then dumps those files to the recycle bin. i cant seem to get the treo back to its default settings. i would rather suffer some battery drain than not be able to sync at all. any help, please??????????????

Thank you for your tip! Changing the syncing frequency from default to "manual" really doubled the battery life of my Dopod C730, which is the next generation of T-Mobile Dash or Dopod C720. I can't believe that Microsoft set the default of the activesyncing the Exchange Server without considering the terrible draining of the battery , considering that we're already in the era of Windows Mobile 6!!

I have done this several times on my HTC Touch running WM6 and AS 4.5. Each time after I did this, I was NO longer able to sync. Only a hard reset of my PocketPC and a full re-install on my PC was the solution. SO be very careful on WM6.

Regarding above message from jjcyril, to delete the server, go ActiveSync - Menu - Options - Delete server. It's not in the same place as where you created it.

For those of us who use Windows Mobile Device Center and cannot use ActiveSync because of Vista, what do we do? Thanks!

Adding a server source which is bogus causes warning every time you connect to ActiveSync 4.5. Someone suggested removing the server from the PC side but this removes the server from the Mobile device also when you sync. Does WM6 still have this issue ? If so is there a way to configure so it doesn't produce errors every time you sync ?

I did as advised and changed to manual updates . I could not however delete the fake info as, when the info on a page was removed, the "next" button greyed out and forced me to go back then cancel the changes. I have yet to see if it has any good or bad effect on my ipaq.

I followed the posted instructions, however my ATT Tilt continues to sync repeatedly - despite the setting being placed on manual. Any thoughts? I am running Mobile Windows 6 Professional. Dan

After update my Touch Cruise to Windows Mobile 6.1, I have noticed that ActiveSync is always running, even after close it. I have an Outlook Exchange account configured but the sync schedule is set to manual. I’ve read some forums and some people suggested to uncheck the automatic time zone in the phone settings, but this is not working also. This don't happen with WM6, before upgrade. Someone have this problem?
