SPB Mobile Shell next generation user interface utility for Pocket PC

SPB Software House has just unveiled their latest application for Pocket PC devices. It is called SPB Mobile Shell and is one neat and very impressive program for extreme makeover of your Pocket PC.

Spb Mobile Shell introduces the next generation user interface while keeping all advantages of a Windows Mobile device. It is the first program a Pocket PC user needs to install. It dramatically improves the standard user interface and adds features that most users expect from a modern PDA phone. say the developers.

The Windows Mobile for Pocket PC platform has not been significantly changed in terms of the user interface, while use conditions have changed a lot recently. Taking in mind this fact Spb Software House decided it was time to improve the existing WM5 Pocket PC user interface and the one users expect from such a smart, modern and powerful device.

There are three main components which exists at SPB Mobile Shell:

* Now Screen: access your most critical information at a glance
* Spb Menu: access to all your device functions via a soft button
* Today Plug-ins: A resident tabbed area on the Today screen with big dynamic tabs. Four default tabs to give detailed information and provide additional features such as Smart Launcher, Weather, World Time and Photo Dial.

The Spb menu (see screenshots below) adds some much needed features to your Pocket PC, such as smart contact search, and also gives you easy to use access to all existing device features. For example, if you want to take a picture or a video you do not need to launch your camera application first and then use camera UI, but you can choose the preset for the shooting mode (Video, Sport, Photo, MMS Video, Contact Picture etc.) which is more intuitive. The SPB Menu also lets you run all of your applications sorted by Tools, Messaging, Settings, Organizer, Start, Programs, Multimedia and Internet order. In fact this gives you very fast and easy access to all of your Pocket PC features.











Spb Mobile Shell (see screenshots below) includes a Today plug-in with the following features:

* Smart MRU (Most Recently Used) program launcher with the ability to pin items, battery indicator and innovative backlight control that is optimized for using with a stylus.
* Photo speed dial
* Basic weather forecast (a light version of Spb Weather)
* World-time in 3 cities and next alarm (a light version of Spb Time, but if you have Spb Time, the Spb Mobile Shell interacts with it)





The best about Spb Mobile Shell is that all of its functionality can be accessed with the D-pad and soft-keys. And if you prefer the touch screen, all elements (all made with thumbnails which are quite big and you lets you see everything in most cases without opening the app) are large enough to be tapped without a stylus. It also has a option to password protect everyone of your items. Spb Mobile Shell is also specially optimized for landscape mode.

Other good thing about Spb Mobile Shell is that it has Adaptive skins options. This means that it will change its skin when the device color is changed. All of the skinable parts of the Spb Mobile Shell user interface (menu, Contacts screen) are also automatically changed when a user chooses any one of the sixteen included color schemes.

Spb Mobile Shell has 5 types of configurable options (see screenshots below) for today screen, now screen, tabs, themes and weather.







After installing SPB Mobile Shell on my HTC TyTN and give it a try i can honestly say that this software could (and very probably will) hit the top of the must-have Windows Mobile 5 softwares. Its fast working, impressive look,simplicity and flexibilty make this application one very cool addition to your device.
