In case youre a 3G fan and tend to freak out whenever 3G connection isnt available for your latest phone, you will be happy to know that AT&T is going to be the only US carrier to offer its subscribers 3G quality with their full HSPA technology.
AT&T has already deployed HSDPA in over 275 markets. And they are working hard to deliver HSUPA to all these markets. As of right now only 6 markets are left to be covered to complete full HSPA. This quite a move from AT&T and I would take this powerful 3g network into account if I was switching carriers. AT&T also promises that by the end of the year, 75 more markets will be offering full 3G support which is again, great news.
I suspect this strategy is targeted around the 3G iPhone which is about to be released. AT&T knows the impact this phone will have on the regular consumer and its counting on its 3G extended network to attract future iPhone owners. On the long run AT&T are to further upgrade their existing network by the end of 2009. Their goal is to increase up to 5 times the current maximum speed.
And since we are talking about speed, existing AT&T 3G customers will be able to download with speeds up to 1.4Mbps via HSDPA, and upload with speeds up to 800Kbps via HSUPA.
