May 31 Android’s Own Apps Store
Found in:Android, Applications, Apple, Software, Google,
Andy Rubin, Android project leader said: “It would be a great benefit to the Android community to provide a place where people can go to safely and securely download content and where a billing system would allow developers to get paid for their effort”, in what appears to be the launch of an Android App Store similar in concept with what Apple has to offer.
Although this wasn’t an official launch, it is pretty clear that Google wants in the mobile world and they want in badly. Battling Apple’s iPhone, which is also fairly new in the cell phone business, will keep some headlines up. I wonder what other carrier’s response to all this Android or Apple movement is going to be.
If by now certain applications were available only for certain phones and from certain carriers, an Android Apps Store will allow anyone to practically install any of the available applications on their own handset. Carrier names or plan will not count when making such a purchase. Similar to Android is what Apple is offering to their customers but more limited.
While waiting for an official Android Apps Store release, all I can say is go Google, start an apps revolution!
