Jun 01 Google Gears, Geotagging and Windows Mobile

Google is very interested in the mobile world and we already know that. With so many applications which can be adapted for usage with a mobile, Google does what they know best, and that is to monopolize certain interest areas. Not that it’s necessarily such a bad thing to do so.
Google Gears will add geotagging to your Windows Mobile phone, which means your phone position will be easily located with help of GPS or signal triangulation. Google Gears will do what it knows best. It will help you run off-line (combination of HTML and JavaScript) some of that programs you crave for while you are on the go. Where does Opera fit into all that? Well I have another good news, Opera 9.5 will fully support Google Gears both on desktops/laptops and on Windows Mobile smartphones. Charles Wiles, Google’s Product Manager for mobile applications says: "Opera will have full support for Gears on mobile when they launch this year, Opera Mobile 9.5 will be a great example of a high-quality browser on a mobile platform that supports Gears. This marks the coming of age of the browser as the platform for application development on mobile devices." Jon von Tetzchner, Opera’s CEO says: "The forthcoming Opera Mobile 9.5 with Gears will usher in a new era for the Web on mobile devices. Together, these products will create new ways to bring applications to life on mobile devices. Developers will be able to use this along with Opera Dragonfly to develop and debug compelling applications for any connected environment."
