Apple did it again. After one year the iPhone gets replaced already. The newest version is the 3G iPhone, very much debated and very much awaited. Apple fans have been waiting for it to finally buy while Apple’s foes have been waiting for it to see what needs to be done to beat the iPhone2.

For almost two hours, Steve Jobs and friends have presented the new iPhone 2.0 platform, the SDK, the new applications and eventually they have shown us all what the new iPhone will look like. The iPhone 2 will be released in 22 countries on July 11th with 48 more countries to be added later this year. That’s one huge step ahead for Apple in their mobile phones adventure. Further more the 3G iPhone will be much cheaper, with prices from $199 for the 8GB to $299 for the 16GB version with 2 years plans (form AT&T in the US of course).

The 3G iPhone features:

• 3.5 inch display,
• 2 colors, black and white,
• 2 megapixels camera ,
• flush headphone jack,
• 3G support,
• better battery (300 hours standby time; 10 hours 2G talk time; 5 hours 3G talk time; 5-6 hours browsing time and up to a day if listening to music only),
• A-GPS,
• Microsoft Exchange and Cisco support,
• and more.

Is that all? Well no, there are lots of applications available, and more to be added with help of Apple’s SDK. There’s the new MobileMe service available for iPhone and Mac which will help you keep everything up to date no matter where you are.

This being said, I would assume that other cell phone manufacturers saw this presentation too and they are already coming up with more ideas to fight Apple. After all good products and constant competition will only lead to progress. Ultimately we, as the consumers, should be the winners.
