The Symbian Foundation was given good news recently when Nokia purchased the Symbian operating system then handed it over to the non-for-profit foundation to be used for creating new open source versions of the world's most popular mobile operating system.
The original supporters of the foundation include Vodafone, Samsung, LG, AT&T, Nokia, Sony Ericsson, and Motorola.
Now the foundation is growing to include 3 Wireless, America Mobile, along with Texas Instruments, Aplix, EB, EMCC Software, Saken and TietoEnator.
If you don't realize some of the names its important to mention that this now gives the Symbian Foundation additional chipset makers, developers and carriers for their arsenal of supporters, a move that should help them fight against other large organizations such as the Linux based non-for-profit LiMO, and the internet juggernaut Google and their Android system.
