Cell phones and smartphones, applications and new OS, new browsers and games, will all be rather useless without a good, dependable fast connection. Besides improving call quality, a fast HSDPA connection will help you deal with the rest of your day, at work and at home. Faster downloads, an instant response, that's what we want. Well Qualcomm managed to go a step further. Using a MDM8200 chipset in the 5GHz frequency channel Qualcomm made a faster call today with data transfers of more than 20Mbps.
I'm sure we are a far way of seeing this implemented in the near future, but then again we're definitely going to see it at some point. Besides Qualcomm others are working on faster data transfer. AT&T is planning to offer speeds between 7Mbps and 20Mbps somewhere in the next two years. 3G America is offering download speed of up to 5Mbps and uploads of up to 3Mbps, while WiMAX, where available will get you 2-6Mbps download speeds and 1-3Mbps uploads.
None of those are close to what Qualcomm managed to achieve but they are surely on the right track.
