Review: DashWire For Windows Mobile Smartphones

DashWire claims to be a cellular device backup program that offers free sync abilities to the internet, but really the application is so much more, its a social networking aid, a backup program and an overall good to have cellular information organizer that can easily swap information between your devices and keep your information safely stored for easy online and offline access.

Installing DashWire was a simply process and I was ready to dive right in. The program offers several key features that add to the functionality and stability of your Windows Mobile 5.0, 6.0 and 6.1 devices. In my case I used the program on my HTC S630 running Windows Mobile 6.0

The program works under the concept that your phone is constantly connected to the internet and therefore to DashWire, for this reason I suggest having an unlimited data plan for use with the program.

Based on the constantly connected concept user contact information is shared between your device and your DashWire portal, from the site you can easily add, edit and delete your contacts either on your phone or on the website, at which point both spots are updated at the same time, this ability to connect between portals both online and cellular was impressive enough, but the program didn't stop there.

Every SMS message you send is also received in an Instant messaging looking atmosphere, thus giving the feel of an IM based conversation rather than the fragmented conversations found with typical SMS messages, a nice addition that I preferred over the Windows Mobile 6.1 threaded messaging option.

I also found the uploading and sharing of pictures and videos with popular programs such as Flickr and YouTube to be top notch with no real slowdown problems on my networks 3G high speed data connection.

Finally, and perhaps the most useful feature is the ability to switch your devices information over to a new device, since DashWire stores your information remotely when you get a new device you can simply install DashWire and log into your account, all of a sudden your information from the old device appears on the new. A very nice feature indeed.
