Sep 26 Review: Ping For Symbian Smartphones
Found in:Freeware, Symbian,
If you're a competent computer user you've probably heard of the Ping command, its essentially an option that allows you to find out if your modem is connecting to the internet, and to find the IP addresses of websites you may be visiting, and now thanks to Ping for Symbian devices those abilities are brought to your Symbian based cell phones.
Ping requires a Symbian S60 3rd edition phone in order to operate and installed with a simple one file setup.
Once installed I was pleasantly surprised to see a very plain and easy to navigate module. Users simply type in the domain name they want to ping and the network statistics are returned to the phone in the same type of manner they would be found in MS-DOS.
Users can either type the exact web url or type the IP address for the website to ping the site, they can also find out the websites IP address by typing in the DNS (The actual name of the website such as www.yahoo.com).
Whether you need a quick network diagnostic tool or if you want to test your devices own connection abilities, the PING option is a great piece of Symbian Freeware that's definitely worth checking out.
