Microsoft and LG are teaming up on a strategic collaboration in mobile technology that could help Microsoft fend off competitive threats towards Windows Mobile.

Due to strong competition from Symbian and Apple's iPhone, Microsoft has signed a preliminary agreement with LG Electronics that will ensure continued strategic collaboration in R&D, marketing, applications, and services in the field of converged mobile devices.

Microsoft And LG

"This agreement between LG and Microsoft will create critical momentum in the industry," said Yong Nam at the announcement ceremony. "With this partnership, mobile computing will truly become an everyday reality, and LG and Microsoft will be at the forefront of it."

A deal like this can only mean good things for Microsoft as competition in the mobile space gets more and more fierce. With the introduction of Google and their Android open source OS, Microsoft has to come good with Windows Mobile 7, and like we all know, the guys at Redmond are at their best when competition is at it's best.
