Japan's biggest mobile telco NTT DoCoMo today announced that the scheduled launch in Japan of the Nokia E71 smartphone has been cancelled, citing Nokia's decision to again withdraw from the Japanese market.
In a statement, NTT DoCoMo said that the delay is "due to Nokia Corporation's decision to terminate sales of all Japan-specific handsets through Japanese operators".
NTT DoCoMo did not say whether only the launch date has been cancelled or whether the very idea of introducing the E71 in Japan has been scrapped.
The company announced on Nov. 5 its plan to release Nokia's thin smartphone with QWERTY keyboard sometime in the first quarter of 2009.
