British telco T-Mobile is now offering the Google Android-powered G1 smartphone for free under a cheaper tariff plan.

T-Mobile G1

Early adopters should be bewailing it but T-Mobile has lowered the minimum tariff plan for the G1, from £40 (about $59) to just £30 (about $44).

Industry sources says that the T-Mobile's tariff-cut for the G1 is in response to fierce competition in the smartphone market.

T-Mobile's standard G1 package under the £30 plan also includes the following "freebies": 8GB memory card, free mobile internet, £140 worth of calls and texts each month (700 minutes of talk) or 1,400 text messages.

You can get either the black of white G1 unit.

The G1 is the world's first smartphone powered by Google's Android mobile platform.
