The Symbian Foundation today welcomed a new batch of US corporate supporters to its initiatives in developing a new, open mobile phone operating system.

The entry of more supporters in the US bring to 64 the number of organizations to Symbian Foundation's plans.

The new Symbian Foundation supporters who came out at its San Francisco event were AOL, Intrinsyc and Xenient, Cell Telecom, ISB Corporation and Trusted Logic.

US firms ARM, Broadcom, EA Mobile, Freescale, Marvell, Red Bend Software, TapRoot Systems, T-Mobile US and Visa have already voiced support to the drive towards a new mobile platform.

The Symbian Foundation said that about 500 delegates are now in San Francisco "to learn more about the future of Symbian OS and its associated ecosystem".
