Dec 17 Mobile Power Pack by Socket

Although most of us can usually recharge our handhelds and smartphones simply by plugging them into the nearest power socket, there are many situations where this isn't possible.I don't know about you, but I hate being without my favorite device, even when I'm out in the woods. It can be mighty hard to charge up your handheld in the middle of a national park. That's where Socket's Mobile Power Pack comes in. It can recharge any device that's capable of taking in power through its USB port.
I recently went on a trip and used the Mobile Power Pack as my sole source of power for my handheld. I used Palm's LifeDrive as this is a notorious power hog. Odds are your experience will be even better than what I've described here. In the week I was gone, the Power Pack was able to completely recharge this handheld multiple times.
I got at least three full charges out of it. It's hard to be exact because there were times while I was recharging the LifeDrive while I was using it. Still, it was was all I needed for light use of the device during the entire trip. Of course, because it was using the USB port, the Mobile Power Pack recharged the LifeDrive somewhat slowly. Typically I plugged the handheld in at night, and it would be fully charged in the morning.
I did check one time and the device had gone from being essentially out of power to fully charged in about three hours. The recharge time would be even faster if I was using a device that has a barrel charging jack.
Not too long ago I went to an all-day conference. I needed to use my LifeDrive frequently, and I knew its battery wasn't up to the task. So, whenever I wasn't using the handheld, I kept it plugged into the Mobile Power Pack. This allowed me to make heavy use of the LifeDrive without worrying about running out of power. In sessions that went from 8:00 in the morning to 5:00 in the afternoon, I very frequently used WiFi to check my email and surf the Web. Without the Mobile Power Pack, I'd have drained the LifeDrive's battery before lunch. But with it was able to keep using my handheld all day. I couldn't have used the LifeDrive for the whole nine hours, but I was able to use it far more than I otherwise would.
At $150, I can't describe Socket's Mobile Power Pack as a "must have" accessory for everyone. But if you often find yourself away from an electrical socket for extended periods, then it sure could come in handy.
