Seeking to capitalize on the growing popularity of multimedia phones, the Philippines' second biggest mobile service provider Globe Telecom launched AppZone, which offers subscribers software downloads for their mobile phones or PCs.
AppZone's wide variety of software are classified into different categories: Business/Finance; Utilities; Education and Reference; Enhancements; Personal Productivity; Multimedia/Graphics; Medical; Enterprise; Travel; Entertainment; and Internet.
It currently serves apps compatibe with phones from Nokia, Motorola, Samsung, Siemens and SonyEricsson.
Payments charged against a subscriber's prepaid load or his/her postpaid contract.
Globe claims that AppZone will also be a venue for Globe Labs, Globe’s community of developers, to market their applications to subscribers.
Globe is owned by the Ayala family and the SingTel of Singapore. It is Apple's exclusive partner in the Philippines for the iPhone.
