Japan telco NTT docomo has launched a new Symbian-powered addition to its PRIME handset series, the SD-03A from Sharp.

docomo's SD-03A is powered by Symbian OS v9.4 which is "optimized for convergence, designed with performance and feature enhancements" that enable consumers to enjoy new uses and experiences on mobile phones, ensuring the highest level of power efficiency and platform security.

The SH-03A, which ships starting Friday, comes equipped with a touchscreen and an 8 megapixel camera. It is manufactured by Sharp Corporation and includes the MOAP platform which is compliant with the latest FOMA specifications.

Other companies that ship Symbian-powered 3G phones in Japan are Fujitsu, Mitsubishi Electric, Motorola, Nokia, Sharp, and SonyEricsson.
