The Nokia N79, a relatively new entry-level N-Series Symbian S60 smartphone released just this November has already received its first firmware update.

An update will give an N79 the following:

1. New versions of N-Gage and Mail for Exchange

2. Fixes to just about every included application, such as Calendar, Camera, Music Player, Messaging, and VoIP

3. Major fixes to the Telephone features

An upgrade may be done using the Nokia Software Updater program or via over-the-air (OTA) download.

The Nokia N79 runs on Symbian S60 Feature Pack 2 (v3.2) and features the following: a 2.2-inch QVGA screen, five megapixel digital camera with auto-focus, WIFI, Bluetooth, GPS w/A-GPS, TV-Out and Xpress-on covers.

Featured software include N-Gage, Mail for Exchange, Nokia Maps 3, QuickOffice, and the Webkit-based Nokia Web Browser.
