US telco T-Mobile is set to launch this month a software update for its G1 handset, bringing the functionality of a virtual keyboard to the world's first Google Android-powered phone

G1

The G1's hardware keyboard may not be enough after all especially as it requires turning the smartphone to landscape mode before input. An on-screen keyboard would be a good fix to this inconvenience.

The software upgrade would be called RC31 and codenamed "cupcake".

It was supposed to have been launched by the middle of January but has obviously been delayed.
