Samsung is set to join the mad scramble for the smartphone market this year, announcing that it will be unveiling its first smartphone to be powered by Google Android.

The new smartphone will be available in the US through T-Mobile and Sprint Nextel networks, according to a report.

The company, which has been rolling out smartphones running on Symbian and Windows Mobile platforms, did not disclose pricing and any additional information.

A Samsung official said that the company is speeding up developing process for its Google phone to meet the needs of local carriers, apparently referring to US telcos.
