Samsung Electronics has launched a service allowing customers to buy or rent movies and TV series for downloading straight to their mobile phones.

Now available for download are 500 movies from Warner Bros, Paramount and Universal, starting with movie "The Dark Night" and the comedy series "Friends".

Samsung Movies is initially available in the UK and Germany and will also roll out later in other European markets. The service will be available on video-enabled Samsung phones.

Rentals will cost 2.49 pounds while purchasing a movie with set you back 4.99 pounds.

Samsung said that the service will have 1,000 movies by the end of the first quarter, and 2,000 movies by July.
