AT&T has decided to allow the SlingPlayer for the iPhone but it has also set some limits in place for it. Apparently the application "would use large amounts of wireless network capacity" which "could create congestion and potentially prevent other customers from using the network". On top of that, AT&T said that "applications like this, which redirects a TV signal to a personal computer, are specifically prohibited under our terms of service." That's why SlingPlayer for iPhone will be used over WiFi only.
What are AT&T's real reasons behind all of this? Well it looks like AT&T is working on a similar application of its own. i-Verse is supposed to be the mobile version of that AT&T U-Verse television service. i-Verse will let U-verse subscribers stream recorded video from their DVRs to their mobile phone. What service would you prefer?
