Smartphones to Receive System-on-a-Chip from Intel? Medfield is a codename for a processor currently being developed by Intel. The system-on-a-chip is supposed to be a low-power version of Intel's new Moorestown processor. The Moorestown is actually a 2-chip system conceived for usage in low-power UMPCs.

Intel hasn't really confirmed the rumor so far but it's probably a matter of time until they do. Since Intel had an impressive success with its Atom platform, it should be only a logical step until they develop special chips for smartphones. And it looks like Intel did just that. The Moorestown is said to consume 10 times less energy than the Atom in standby mode which must mean that the Medfield will be even more efficient. How many years do we have to wait for it?
