This is another reason why I am no BlackBerry fan, applications on a whole is just to damn expensive, burn BB burn. Anyway, the good folks over at Skyhook did a survey a few days ago that showed that the average price if a BlackBerry Location Based Service application cost about $13.60 compared to Android and the iPhone which cost $0.84 and $3.60 respectively, how is that for cheap? They also found out which we already know about the iPhone App Store, it has more LBS (Location Based Service) applications compared to the others, 2,300 to be exact. 75% of those applications are paid, 65% of the BlackBerry LBS applications are also paid but Android lead the pack with 80% of all LBS applications being free, if only things would stay like that forever.
The most popular LBS applications across all platforms are Travel, Navigation, and Social Networking, up and coming LBS applications are Music, Finance, and Games.
"Skyhook's comparative study of location aware app stores reveals three very different types of stores in key measurements like the average cost of apps, total number of apps and growth over time." said Kate Imbach, director of marketing and developer programs at Skyhook Wireless. "We are excited to release the first in a series of Skyhook Wireless App Store reports to track the evolution of location apps within these app stores."
