Sprint has finally decided to purchase iPCS in a $831 million deal. I wonder what convinced Sprint to finally make the move. Is the carrier really considering expanding its services or does Sprint want to avoid the current legal battle with iPCS?
iPCS has been trying for a while now to make Sprint stop operating the Nextel network in areas where iPCS had coverage. And Sprint decided nearly four years after the trial has started to finally purchase iPCS and shut them up. That way Sprint will not be required to terminate its iDEN network in various regions covered by iPCS. The deal will be finalized later this year or in early 2010 which means that Sprint only has two more companies to take care of. These are Shentel and Swiftel and we might see these affiliates get purchased at some point in the near future too. Are you an iPCS client? What do you have to say about the move?
