Verizon Raises ETF to $350 for Advanced Devices Verizon is getting really serious about its business. With a hot phone like the Motorola Droid coming out tomorrow and with the BlackBerry Strom 2 available in Buy One Get One promotions the carrier wants to make sure that its offers won't be exploited in the near future.

How can people take advantage of those phones? Well that's pretty simple! Simply buy the Droid for a subsidized price with a 2-year contract, cancel the contract and then sell the phone for full price on eBay for example. You'll end up with a tiny profit. That's at least how things could work in theory.

What Verizon did was to double the Early Termination Fees for "advanced devices." Starting with November 15 the ETFs will begin at $350. I'm sure that this drastic measure won't be appreciated by Verizon Wireless customers and especially by anyone purchasing the phone tomorrow. Not to mention that other carriers could follow Verizon's lead and raise their own ETFs on "advanced devices" too.
