RIM Announces New WebKit Browser at MWC; Ready to Save Bandwidth Consumption? One of the points Mike Lazaridis, RIM's Co-CEO was trying to make at MWC 2010 was that inevitably we're heading towards a mobile universe in which carriers won't be able to offer us sufficient bandwidth for our daily needs. He supported his claims by showing everyone that for each iPhone out there you could carry five BlackBerry smartphones. He was of course referring to the traffic the handsets generate.

If you're wondering about the validity of his report then maybe you should check out the new WebKit browser announced by RIM. We knew that RIM had such plans and we hope that the new browser will let BlackBerry users surf the Internet at faster speeds no matter what network they'd be using.

But that doesn't mean users will simply stop craving apps for their smartphones. Apple opened Pandora's box and now every carrier and manufacturer wants apps and more apps for their customers. Furthermore LTE and WiMAX are coming so, in theory, our bandwidth problems might be solved soon.

The new WebKit-based browser is said to be really fast. It already scored a 100/100 on the Acid3 test but the software itself is not available to BlackBerry users. We'll be looking forward for more information from RIM concerning its WebKit browser but in the mean time you can check out the video demo below:
