Bad news for Microsoft and those planning to get a Windows Phone 7 handset later this year, the popular VoIP application called Skype will not be available for the platform. I understand that the reason this is so is because Windows Mobile has been losing users and marketshare thus the folks at Skype will focus on Android, iPhone and Symbian platforms.
Some chatter on the Internet has it that lack of users and marketshare is not the only reason, but because of Windows Phone 7 development which relies on Silverlight for applications or something of the sort, for whatever reason though, Microsoft need to do something drastic to keep it developers interest in the platform or else things will just continue to go downhill.
Make no mistake, power users need Skype on their handsets, using other 3rd party applications such as Nimbuzz or whatever else is not good enough. I guess the only way all this can work out in a good way is if some clever developer can come up with an application with full Skype support, but would still not be good enough.
