Sprint to Discontinue the Original Palm Pre The Palm Pre was Palm's and Sprint's first webOS device and it was launched all the way back in summer 2009 in order to fight the iPhone 3G and upcoming iPhone 3GS. The device didn't prove to be an iPhone-killer but definitely was a very interesting smartphone running a more than capable modern OS.

But it looks like Sprint is finally ready to discontinue this puppy, and considering that the carrier has been selling it for almost 18 months, it's about time for the original Pre to reach its end of life.

Its successor however, the Palm Pre 2 that was launched by SFR in France and just started selling in the UK too, is coming to Verizon at some point later this year, and it's not year clear whether other U.S.-based carriers will get it. So if you always wanted a Sprint Pre but never followed your instinct to buy it, then maybe this holiday season is the time to get it.
