Despite all the fragmentation, Android is racing ahead of the competitions like a donkey on wheels smoking a pipe. Android is now the number one smartphone platform in the US, and right now, there is nothing the competition can do about it.

In the year 2010, Android only accounted for 7% of the smartphone market in the US, BlackBerry sat on 42%, so how the hell did RIM managed to let the BlackBerry lose over 11% market share in just one year? It's like everyone at RIM are dreaming, or just sat on their asses watching Two And A Half Men all day. Not only did Android gain, they are now sitting on 31.2% of the market, which is slightly higher than BlackBerry's 30.4% share, and the way things are going, they should hit 40% before years end.

RIM will be launching the BlackBerry PlayBook in April, but with the iPad 2 on the horizon, it would be a device likely to be dead on arrival. For Android, quite a few tablets are hitting the shelves this year, the Motorola XOOM is already out and looking good, there is no coming back for RIM.
