In an announcement made today, Pangean Technologies, provider of SIP-based VoIP software applications for internal and campus-wide communications for the enterprise, revealed plans to launch Y-Talk, a VoIP mobility solution for internal instant communications.

The new service, expected to be officially released at the end of June 2006, is based on Pangean’s insta-REACT! product and leverages both VoIP and WiFi technologies to provide instant communications within a campus network. With Y-Talk, PDA's running Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 or Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 become "Walkie-Talkie" like devices with a push to talk feature via a SIP-based software application.

The new service will provide enterprises with a need for instant communications such as hospitals, retailers and warehouses, a way of reaching employees and colleagues even if they're "on the go". Y-Talk will offer a unique solution for enterprises looking to maintain contacts within groups of employees and leverage their existing Wireless LAN network for in-building communications. With the Push to Talk button, employees can instantly communicate with team members and groups of colleagues.

Pangean also unveiled a partnership with Symbol to integrate Y-Talk on Symbol's MC50 and MC70 Enterprise Digital Assistants (EDA) and is expecting to receive certification from Symbol.

Nov 23 Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars - Release for Palm
Found in: Games, New Spb Mobile Shell 3.0 Brought to Light at Mobile World Congress 2009

Astraware and Revolution Software are excited to announce the release of Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars for Palm OS handhelds. The game has been developed by Revolution Software, the original creators of the Broken Sword series, and is published by Astraware.
Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars is an epic adventure which takes you around the globe in a desperate race to unlock the ancient mysteries of the Knights Templar.
Originally created for PC and PlayStation, and now available for PalmOS® handhelds, Broken Sword is the story of George Stobbart, an American tourist on vacation in Europe, who becomes embroiled in a terrifying conspiracy when he witnesses the theft of an ancient manuscript and the assassination of its owner. The manuscript, created in the 14th century by the order of the Knights Templar, points to where their legendary power has been hidden for over six hundred years. Befriending a photojournalist, Nico Collard, the two find themselves on a global trail that ultimately reveals a deadly secret that will change their lives forever.
Just as in many modern mystery books, you will become immersed in the unfolding story as you guide George through the game, looking for clues, talking to witnesses, and following the trail as it takes him from Paris to Ireland, Syria and beyond.
Avid PDA users are already excited about the release. Jan Galbraith from Palm Addict told us: "I have been playing Broken Sword and it has knocked my socks off! Having never before played an adventure game, I was delighted to find that it is like "experiencing" a good mystery story. This game, with its interesting characters, exotic locales, and stunning graphics, has grabbed me, and I can't wait to find out what happens, but I don't want it to end!"
Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars is released on November 23rd for specified high resolution Palm OS 5.0 handhelds* priced $29.95. The Windows Mobile® for Pocket PC version will follow in February 2006.

Found in: Mobile News, UMPC, The Microsoft Origami Project and will it change our lives?

Rumors are running around the web about a new Microsoft gadget codenamed "Origami" that will unfold on March 2nd. Interestingly, in 2001 National Semiconductor showcased a concept prototype device called Origami, which it said could morph into eight different types of gadgets by folding and pivoting.

About the size and weight of a small digital camcorder, the National Geode ‘Origami’ Mobile Communicator is a flexible unit that folds and unfolds to perform eight popular consumer electronics functions in one easy-to-use device.

The Origami prototype is described as "a flexible device that folds and unfolds to perform eight popular consumer electronics functions in one easy-to-use device.". The device was said to be 7.5 x 4 x 1.5 inches in size and will weight about 10 ounces.

Origami prototype will have various configurations to provide the following eight functions:

* digital camera
* video camcorder
* smartphone
* MP3 player
* PDA
* Internet access and Internet picture frame
* email access
* video conferencing

When you visit the www.origamiproject.com website a nice good looking Flash animation tells you :
“Hello". “Do you know me?”. “Do you know what I can do?”. “and where I can go?”. “or how I can change your life?”. “you will ... "

The mystery should be resolved on 03.02.2006 so lets wait and see what they will offer.

Jan 07 T-Mobile MDA Vario ROM upgrade - first maintenance release
Found in: Mobile News, ROM upgrades, T-Mobile MDA Vario ROM upgrade - first maintenance release

It looks like T-Mobile (here: UK) is among those operators, that are releasing upgrades for their Windows Mobile phones promptly.Unfortunately this ROM upgrade doesn't contain yet AKU 2.0 (push e-mail and 2 profiles for stereo audio over Bluetooth) but it just shows that T-Mobile is committed and indicates indirectly that AKU 2.0 is coming in March 2006.

Please read the following before you begin upgrading.

* Before upgrading your MDA Vario, the battery must be fully charged.
* In order to save your personal data, you can either use a storage card or use Active Sync which will save your data from your device to your PC (note that Active Sync will only save data from Outlook such as contacts, tasks, appointments, files etc).
* All email settings will be lost and therefore they will need to be reconfigured - please make a note of these prior to running the upgrade.
* All personalised data including software applications, T-Mobile downloads, web favourites, any POP3 emails, SMS, MMS, and other settings would be erased during the upgrade process.
* The upgrade process takes about 20-30 minutes and must be conducted from the PC via a USB cable (please ensure you have downloaded the file to the PC first not directly to the MDA Vario device), please do not run the upgrade over the air or via Bluetooth. During this time please do not do anything else with your PC, such as start another application like Microsoft® Word or Excel because your MDA Vario may well crash.
* During the upgrade process do not allow the screen saver or power save mode to kick in, as this may also cause problems.
* Once the upgrade has been completed you will need to reload any applications - applications provided on the separate CD when the device was bought, but also separate applications that you have bought and loaded onto the device.

Feb 01 VoIP Application with support for Windows Mobile 5 Dual-Mode Devices
Found in: Mobile News, VoIP, VoIP Application with support for Windows Mobile 5 Dual-Mode Devices

SIPquest, developer of converged Multimedia Client Software announced today that its Mobile Console is the first VoIP application to support Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 devices. Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 is the newest operating system to support dual-mode for PDA and smartphone devices.

Delivering services over WiFi, WiFi and GSM and WiFi and CDMA networks, the Mobile Console application will allow dual mode device users in both wireless and WiFi networks to have one, optimal and seamless experience.

As it seems from a recent release, the Mobile Console’s single GUI and support for unified numbering consolidates both WiFi and cellular identities and is interoperable with IP PBX’s and softswitches.

The new application will also include a "Network Aware" feature that will allow users more options and personal choices when placing phone calls. For example the feature will recommend a network connection option based on availability for better quality and lowered costs or users will have the option to choose which ever factor they prefer.

"We have a track record of supporting innovative operating systems such as Windows Mobile and are proud to be the first VoIP application to support version 5.0," said David Hattey, president and CEO or SIPquest.

The Mobile Console application will be displayed at the 3GSM Conference in Barcelona Spain for February 13-16 2006. For more on this please visit www.sipquest.com
