Bluetooth 4.0 Standard Ready by the End of 2010?

Wait a second there mobile enthusiasts, weren't we supposed to get Bluetooth 3.0 already? We know the standard exists but there aren't any mobile phones using it. So are we ready to move to Bluetooth 4.0 altogether and skip version 3.0?

According to Bluetooth SIG Executive Director Mike Foley Bluetooth 4.0 will come to mobile phones by the end of 2010 which is certainly a step forward. He did not specify what phones will get Bluetooth 4.0 and when exactly we are to expect it.

Called the Wholesale Applications Community, the new organization is supposed to be an alternative to Apple's famous App Store. In other words some of the most powerful mobile operators around the world have joined forces in order to make sure that the App Store won't take over our minds.

Supporting them is the GSMA and handset manufacturers like LG, Sony Ericsson and Samsung and we expect this Wholesale Applications Community formed at MWC to bring us only good things.

RIM Announces New WebKit Browser at MWC; Ready to Save Bandwidth Consumption?

One of the points Mike Lazaridis, RIM's Co-CEO was trying to make at MWC 2010 was that inevitably we're heading towards a mobile universe in which carriers won't be able to offer us sufficient bandwidth for our daily needs. He supported his claims by showing everyone that for each iPhone out there you could carry five BlackBerry smartphones. He was of course referring to the traffic the handsets generate.

If you're wondering about the validity of his report then maybe you should check out the new WebKit browser announced by RIM. We knew that RIM had such plans and we hope that the new browser will let BlackBerry users surf the Internet at faster speeds no matter what network they'd be using.

Nokia to Launch Fewer Smartphones in 2010?

The word on the street is that Nokia will launch fewer smartphones next year? Is that right? Does that sound like the smart thing to do? Sure Apple has only one smartphone which it keeps updating every year. Does Nokia want to follow such a marketing strategy?

According to Antii Vasara, Nokia's head of smartphones R&D said that fewer smartphones means that Nokia will "cut down unnecessary differentiation" and "have a far more focused portfolio for next year."
