Google's Crowdsourcing Road Congestion Data via Google Maps Mobile Google just unveiled that it collects Google Maps Mobile data to improve its traffic layer. This mean that you send anonymous bits of data back to Google describing how fast you're moving when you use Google Maps Mobile on GPS enabled phone with My Location turned on. The idea behind this data collection is that Google combine your speed with the speed of other phones on the road, across thousands of phones moving around a city at any given time to get a pretty good picture of live traffic conditions.
