Palm Stops Pre and Pixi Production Temporarily

Palm Stops Pre and Pixi Production Temporarily

Palm has decided to temporarily stop production of Palm Pre, Palm Pre Plus, Palm Pixi and Palm Pixi Plus smartphones. That means that neither Sprint nor Verizon will get as many webOS smartphones in the very future so you'll either have to buy one now or wait until March in case supplies don't lest.

Don't worry though; everything is fine with the company. What happened here is that Palm increased production before February and now it is giving its main manufacturer a break for the following weeks.

Given the peculiar date we could always assume that Palm is going to make some kind of webOS-related announcement at MWC 2010 which is about to debut next week.

One of the most important features the new firmware will bring is video recording and video editing capabilities. That's certainly something you'd want to have on your webOS handset, wouldn't you?

Palm Lost $85.4 Million in the Last Quarter

Palm Lost $85.4 Million in the Last Quarter

I don't know about you but I would have expected Palm to become profitable already, especially with a brand new OS like webOS out there. But the Pre and the Pixi were obviously not good enough to stand a chance in front of everything else out there.

Although the Pre did put up a decent fight in the third quarter of the year, the handset was quickly forgotten as more and more hot handsets became available in the last couple of months. And the Pixi is nowhere near a hit phone so Palm will definitely not see that much profit off it.

Palm Pixi Receives webOS 1.3.2 Firmware Update

Palm Pixi Receives webOS 1.3.2 Firmware Update

In case you're the happy owner of a Palm Pixi then you should know there's a new firmware version for you. webOS 1.3.2 is apparently now available to Pixi owners so in case you haven't gotten it then you should look for it already.

What's surprising is that the Pre didn't receive the firmware update despite being the better webOS phone of the two. There's no news if the Pre will also get it soon but considering that firmware 1.3.5 is expected in a few weeks we might never see the Pre go to version 1.3.2.

Palm Pre and Pixi Available for Less at Amazon

Palm Pre and Pixi Available for Less at Amazon

Palm can't be happy with the way things are turning out for the company. Just over six months ago, Palm and its Pre were the talk of the town as everyone envisioned the Pre as a true iPhone killer. We all know what happened in the end and the interest in the Pre has significantly dropped.

The Pixi came along but the second webOS phone is not comparable with the Pre and I'm not convinced it will become a hit phone. Amazon seems to think similarly as the company has slashed the prices for both Palm smartphones.
