EU Commission Approves T-Mobile UK and Orange UK Merger

EU Commission Approves T-Mobile UK and Orange UK Merger

It's not the first time we discuss the merger between two UK important carriers, T-Mobile UK and Orange UK, but this time around we can confirm that the merger will finally be able to take place. The EU Commission has cleared it and Deutsche Telekom and France Telecom can close the deal.

In fact it's expected that the merger will take place by Spring so if you happen to be one of T-Mobile UK's customers you'd better start getting used to the idea that you're going to refer to Orange UK as your default carrier in the very near future.

T-Mobile Dumps Yahoo Search in Favor of Google

T-Mobile Dumps Yahoo Search in Favor of Google

This particular deal between two important players in the U.S. mobile world should not affect you that much but it's still worth mentioning. T-Mobile USA has decided not to continue its mobile search partnership with Yahoo and therefore it will be replacing it with Google.

That move does make sense since T-Mobile is already working with Google on its Android phones so why not tighten that bond even further. Naturally that doesn't mean you can't use Yahoo instead of Google since nobody can force you to actually use the default search engine on your smartphone. T-Mobile USA is still going to work with Yahoo for Yahoo Mail, News, Finance, Yahoo Messenger and Flickr.

HTC HD2 Arriving to T-Mobile on March 24?

HTC HD2 Arriving to T-Mobile on March 24?

We've already seen T-Mobile's pricing details for the HTC HD2 and we know it's coming this month to U.S. customers eager to finally play with the device. But it's today that we hear HTC's flagship Windows Mobile 6.5 phone is getting ready to arrive on March 24.

The HTC HD2 is probably the last Windows Mobile 6.5 phone ready to impress us and you're not going to regret buying it. Although Microsoft might not support the update to Windows Phone 7, the HTC HD2 definitely deserves such an upgrade. Or at least we can surely bet that HTC is going to make an HD2 successor that will run Microsoft's latest OS.

Google, Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile Respond to FCC ETF Questions

Google, Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile Respond to FCC ETF Questions

The Big Four and Google have all responded to the FCC's ETF-related questions. You should remember how the Commission wants to know more details about the whole early termination fees issue and how all the major U.S. carriers and Google have been asked to present their ETF policies.

T-Mobile wants just a single $200 ETF which can be avoided by customers altogether when choosing an Even More Plus plan. Google on the other hand, a partner of T-Mobile selling the Google Nexus One, brags about cutting down its own ETF from $350 to $150. Google's ETF called the Equipment Recovery Fee is apparently not a revenue stream but rather an alternative intended to help Google recover its loses should a customer cancel their T-Mobile contract within 120 days.

AT&T Reported to be 67% Faster than Its Competitors

AT&T Reported to be 67% Faster than Its Competitors

No matter if you really hate it or loathe it the fact is that AT&T has managed to come on top in a speed test performed by PC World. The number two U.S. carrier, and we're counting subscribers here, surpassed Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon in tests and these results surprise us in particular given the fact that we all know the issues various iPhone customers have with AT&T's network.

The test performed by PC World doesn't suggest that AT&T is the better carrier out there in any way. It just states the fact that the Big Four could use a speed upgrade, AT&T included. And here's a closer look at the speed tests performed in Spring 2009:

Nokia Nuron Gets Detailed; Coming on March 17 from T-Mobile?

Nokia Nuron Gets Detailed; Coming on March 17 from T-Mobile?

We've seen the Nokia Nuron just a few days ago and it looks like Nokia's latest creation has been spotted again. The phone is expected to arrive from T-Mobile on March 17 although an official confirmation of this move is yet to arrive.

Nokia is probably going to unveil the Nuron in the following days but don't expect it to be the killer handset we expect from the Finnish company. The phone is made for "connected socializers ages 20-40" which means it's not exactly the smartphone you might imagine.

T-Mobile Selling Original myTouch 3G Smartphones for $99.99

T-Mobile Selling Original myTouch 3G Smartphones for $99.99

The folks over at T-Mobile seem really interested into dumping their current original myTouch 3G stock. And they're prepared to hack and slash prices for you but contracts are still required. The myTouch 3G Android-running handset made by HTC will be available for $99.99 with a 2-year new contract from T-Mo.

Starting tomorrow you'll be able to take advantage of the new price which is $50 cheaper than before. It's definitely a great price to pay for the phone but at the same time you could be a lot more interested in some of the upcoming Android devices as it looks like 2010 will have plenty of such smartphones to offer.

T-Mobile to Launch HTC HD2, Nokia Nuron and Motorola CLIQ XT in March

The leaked slideshow here clearly shows some of the phones T-Mobile USA is getting ready to launch in the first quarter of 2010. Since it's February already and the MWC 2010 is coming soon we'll be more interested to see what the carrier is about to offer us in March.

And T-Mobile has some interesting phones for its subscribers. We've known for a while that the HTC HD2 is getting ready for a March launch in the USA so we're not that surprised to see it appear on the leaked slide.

T-Mobile USA and Deutsche Telekom Divorce Pending

T-Mobile USA and Deutsche Telekom Divorce Pending

It looks like German telecommunication giant Deutsche Telekom wants to ditch its not-so-profitable ventures. Just the other day we heard how Orange and T-Mobile UK and now we hear that T-Mobile USA is also soon to be divorced from its German counterpart.

So what will happen to T-Mobile USA you ask? Well it looks like Deutsche Telekom will spin off the T-Mo USA company. The company is not profitable enough for DT to still want to keep it under its protective wings:

T-Mobile USA has languished under perceptions that its wireless network is inferior and lacks reach, a major shortcoming as customers turn to their cell phones to surf the Internet and stream video. In the third quarter, 77,000 users walked away from T-Mobile USA, while AT&T and Verizon Wireless added millions of customers.

BlackBerry Storm2 Coming to T-Mobile UK in February

BlackBerry Storm2 Coming to T-Mobile UK in February

Yes, the BlackBerry Storm2 still exists and it's a pretty good handset. The second version of RIM's touchscreen smartphone vision is better than the original, but neither the Storm nor the Storm2 became officially hot. And neither of them became the iPhone killer handsets that some people expected them to be.

The Storm2 has been launched in the USA last November and it looks like it's getting ready to cross the ocean to the UK again. T-Mobile UK is the carrier that's going to launch it soon so in case you live in Britain and you're thinking about getting a new smartphone from RIM then the BlackBerry Storm2 could be a great choice for you.
