Dell Streak Gets Android Froyo This Week On O2 UK

Dell Streak Gets Android Froyo This Week On O2 UK

The Dell Streak, which launched this year as Dells first Android MID, is set for getting the Android 2.2 update this week, but it will only be available on the O2 network in the UK. The 5-inch display tablet, which launched surprisingly with Android 1.6, has found it very hard to get a solid position in the market, it would have done really well if Dell had any foresight.

Over the Air roll-out is set to begin this week, but be enduring, OTAs are not sent out to every subscriber who owns a Dell Streak on the same day, though, I don't see why, since not many of these were sold so it should be an easy procedure without any hiccups, unless Dell released a bug infested update.

Adobe Flash Update Indicates Gingerbread Is Coming Soon?

Google has setup its Gingerbread man near its campus a short while ago and it seems that the Mountain View-based company is indeed getting ready to announce the new Android OS version.

Adobe appears to suggest the same thing with its recent Flash for Android update. The Flash update comes with a warning message that reads: "ATTENTION: Please install the upcoming 11/9 update (ver.10.1.105.x) to ensure that Flash player loads properly with future OS updates."

Adobe AIR Now Available in the Android Market

Adobe and Google are taking their partnership to the next level today as Adobe's AIR for Android is now available in the Android Market. You're certainly familiar with Adobe AIR and if you love the Android mobile environment then you'll know that with this important arrival to the Android Market we'll be in for a plethora of apps and games based on Adobe's AIR and created for Android handsets.

In fact we can pretty much expect developers that are familiar with AIR to create various apps for Android, which means the Android Market, which already is the second mobile store after Apple's App Store, to grow even more.

Adobe Air Peer-to-Peer Video Calling Coming to Android?

Adobe Air Peer-to-Peer Video Calling Coming to Android?

It looks like there's a new video calling application in town and it's coming from Adobe. The app, initially called FlashTime, is supposed to be available to Android users at a certain point in the near future although there's no official arrival date just yet.

Adobe's Air 2.5, which is coming later this year, will have this kind of features ready for developers to take advantage of and we definitely expect other peer-to-peer video calling apps to hit the Android Market in the near future.

By now you surely must have heard about that impressive Motorola Droid X, which will be Verizon's next flagship smartphone starting with July 15 when it becomes available in stores.

In order to have Adobe running on your machine you will have to wait for the Froyo update as the Droid X comes with Android 2.1 Éclair installed by default.

Nokia And Opera Stands Behind Adobe Flash

Nokia And Opera Stands Behind Adobe Flash

Things have turned sour for Apple and sweeter for Adobe as two well known companies in the mobile industry put their backing behind Adobe Flash instead of going all out HTML5 Video. If you didn't know, Nokia is the world largest mobile phone manufacture, Opera Software has the number one mobile browser in the form of Opera Mini, so this is a huge gain for Adobe.

Opera Software has pledged their support for HTML5, currently the latest Opera Web Browser supports the competing format so it is only wise to think that eventually Opera Mobile and Opera Mini will get HTML5 support in future releases, after all, Bolt Browser 2.1 has HTML5 locked and loaded. Now about Nokia, it seems they are in support of HTML5 but not in a huge way, couple years ago Nokia tried to rally the World Wide Web Consortium, or W3C, to remove Ogg video and audio formats from HTML5, this is to avoid patent issues, so I guess this shows some small support for HTML5 on Nokia's part.

Video: Froyo Browser Speed Test With Flash

Video: Froyo Browser Speed Test With Flash

Flash 10.1 is here for Android in the Android 2.2 Froyo update, but not only that, the Android browser is faster than every other mobile browser, that should make Android fanboys quite a happy bunch knowing their beloved platform is maturing quite handsomely. Sadly, there is a draw back here, with Flash 10.1 installed, the browser speed is slower than other competing mobile browsers and this might force some people to uninstall Flash from their Nexus One for the time being.

PocketNow tested the Google Nexus One against the iPhone 3GS, and the HTC HD2 where browser load times are concerned, from what we can tell from the video, the Nexus One suffers in speed compared to the other handsets when loading a page with Flash content, note that the iPhone 3GS and HTC HD2 does not load Flash content in the browser. However, when not loading Flash content, the Nexus One browser is obviously faster that Mobile Safari and Opera Mobile, this is so because the browser uses the same rendering engine as that of Google Chrome.

Video: Android 2.2 Froyo Running With Flash

Video: Android 2.2 Froyo Running With Flash

Android 2.2 Froyo is fast, we knew that from the benchmark done by AndroidPolice recently, this video shows testament to the truth that Froyo is faster than a headless chicken searching for a way to just...you know, die. The video shows Adobe Flash 10.1 running on the Google Nexus One and to my surprise, it ran flawlessly, well almost.

From the video, you can see that there is some changes on the homescreen, nothing huge but it is noticeable if you look close enough and not focusing too much at the Flash content running. So let us talk about Flash on the Nexus One, the Adobe guy showing off the content went to several websites with Flash, he played videos, games and other content which ran smooth. I've noticed a few hiccups in playback but you won't see it if you're are not searching for it like I have been, it's really not a big deal. Hit the more link for the video and be blown away, take that Steve Jobs and other noobs who are sucking up to HTML5 video.

Adobe Giving Away Free Android Phones To Employees

Adobe Giving Away Free Android Phones To Employees

Wouldn't you want to be working at Adobe right now, not only would you get to play around with the latest version of Photoshop and Flash, but you'd also get a free Android phone with mobile Flash 10.1, how generous of Adobe to pamper employees in such fine fashion.

It is not quite clear which Android handset Adobe will be handing out, but my first and only guess would have to be the Google Nexus One, it just seems logical as it is Google's own phone and Adobe are working with the big G to get Flash 10.1 blazing on the Android platform. Distribution of these phones is expected to coincide with the launching of Flash 10.1 for Android at the Google I/O conference, my anticipation of this launch along with the conference is beyond over the top.
