Nokia is ready for a bold move, and I am sure it can afford this one. The worldwide number one phone maker and seller will drop cell phone prices by up to 10%. That's very good news, especially for those choosing their music and media handsets. Apparently music and media oriented phones will be the first to have cheaper prices, but who are we to say high end handsets won't follow?

The iPhone 3G's effects seem to settle in. More and more handsets, and especially competitive smartphones will see price cuts in the new future. It appears that Rogers is one of the first carriers to take action on their alternative options. Rogers Wireless has announced their price drop for the Nokia N95. This very dependable Nokia smartphone will be available now for just $199.

Nokia has announced its second quarter 2008 numbers and they look good. Nokia has increased their market share from 39% in Q1 to 40%. That happened after selling about 122 million devices which is 6% more than before and 22% more than last year. S60 phones have increased to 15.3 million compared to Q2 2007 when it has sold 13.9 million devices. Of those 15.3 million, about 10 million are N series phones while almost 2 million are E series phones.

Samsung will launch these two new models, the SCH-W510 and SGH-F268 somewhere later this month. These are supposed to be environment friendly devices and promoters of Samsung's future handsets. Perhaps other cell phone manufacturer should follow Samsung in their quest of delivering cell phones made of something else.

Nokia is the top cell phone manufacturer in the world fir Q1 2008 with 115.2 million phone sales already, That's a 13.6% increase from same time 2007 and at the rate they are marching, I wouldn't be surprise to see a bigger increase in a year from now.
