This is not T-Mobile's first barbeque folks! The carrier did have some mishaps with private data a while ago. This time however the issue is not as sensitive as the phones affected by the whole server failure thing were T-Mobile's Sidekicks and those data servers weren't hacked into.

Google just unveiled that it collects Google Maps Mobile data to improve its traffic layer. This mean that you send anonymous bits of data back to Google describing how fast you're moving when you use Google Maps Mobile on GPS enabled phone with My Location turned on. The idea behind this data collection is that Google combine your speed with the speed of other phones on the road, across thousands of phones moving around a city at any given time to get a pretty good picture of live traffic conditions.
