At the beginning of the month Sony Ericsson announced the new Xperia X2 Windows Mobile smartphone and first Windows phone, featuring Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional (Check out the video here). Xperia X2 features the unique Arc-Slider keyboard but the new SlideView feature, which basically replaces the X1's Xpanels, should give the X2 Sony Ericsson's very own user experience in addition to Windows Mobile 6.5. The X2 is designed by Sony Ericsson but unlike the X1 - which was manufactured by HTC - the X2 is now manufactured by Mobinnova.

Toshiba's aim to wow the crowd with a Windows Mobile phone like no other for sure maked interest at MWC 2009. Toshiba TG01 is the first handset with Qualcomm 1GHz Snapdragon processor and is powered with Microsoft's WM 6.1. It's true! Despite the cultish iPhone following, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has stated that close to 5 million smartphones running on Windows Mobile were shipped during the third quarter of 2008. Apple only shipped 4.4 million iPhone 3G units in Q3.

In response to the fierce competition in the wireless phone market, Microsoft announces plans to improve its mobile operating system and, more surprisingly, put it on fewer devices. Microsoft is limiting the number of phones with the Windows Mobile operating system so that they can keep greater control over device compatibility and keep their competitive edge.
O2 Germany just announced its latest Xda windows mobile smartphone called O2 Xda Guide. It is supposed to replace the Xda orbit 2. Like all their phone the Xda guide will have the O2's exclusive design and is running on Microsoft's Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional. It is powered by a Qualcomm MSM 7225 CPU at 528 MHz and features GSM/GPRS/EDGE as well as UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA in addition to Bluetooth 2.0, WiFi b/g and GPS. The Xda Guide comes with a 2.8" QVGA touchscreen and sports a 3.2 megapixel camera, 256 MB RAM and 512 MB ROM which can be expanded by microSD cards. A 1 GB microSD card is part of the sales package and holds TomTom Navigator 7 (with maps for Germany, Austria and Switzerland).
