Dopod International has announced its Windows Mobile 6 upgrade strategy. Dopod will offer upgrade support for existing users of 838Pro, D810, P800W and the recently launched U1000 to migrate from the Windows Mobile 5 operating system to an improved platform, Windows Mobile 6. This can be done for free and is applicable to all current owners of these devices.
From July 2007, Dopod International will offer current users of these devices a free download of the upgrade code which will enable users of these devices, currently running on Windows Mobile 5, to upgrade to the Windows Mobile 6.
This upgrade from Windows Mobile 5 to Windows Mobile 6 will enable our users of 838Pro, D810, P800W and U1000 to enjoy improved usability, and for our business users to better manage their business information which is based on Microsoft Exchange Server 2007. This will also allow our customers to continue to stay connected through our innovative and powerful products, said Jack Tong, CEO of Dopod International Corp.

Most interesting is the fact, that Dopod is not planning a Windows Mobile 6 upgrade for the C720W (HTC Excalibur), but the D810 (aka HTC Trinity aka HTC P3600) is announced to get an upgrade which HTC has left away!

The HTC Cavalier, the UMTS follower of the HTC Excalibur (better known as T-Mobile Dash or O2 Xda cosmo), is expected to be finally launched by Dopod in May as Dopod C730 according to CNET Asia.
HTC Cavalier will be released with Windows Mobile 6 Standard and is expected to be powered by a 400 MHz CPU with 64 MB of RAM and 128 of MB ROM which can be extended through microSD memory cards. The quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE also features UMTS, HSDPA as well as Bluetooth 2.0 and WiFi b/g and a 2 megapixel camera for photos and videos. It only lacks front facing camera for UMTS video calls like the HTC MTeoR.
The Dopod C730 is expected to be available in Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia and the Philippines from May, but no price information is given yet.

Dopod has presented its latest HTC rebranded device called Dopod 838 Pro. The 838 Pro has been around for some time in Asia, making its rounds through each country as it reaches the West. Some of the highlights of this device include:

Dopod is about to hit the Asia-Pacific market with its new GPS PDA phone under the Dopod P800W name, which actually is a version of High Tech Computer's (HTC's) HTC P3300 (codename Artemis), said sources at Dopod.
The device features a TI OMAP 200MHz CPU, 64MB RAM, 128MB ROM, quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE connectivity, a 2.8" QVGA TFT-LCD, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0, GPS, a 2.0-megapixel camera, a microSD slot, and Windows Mobile 5.0.
The P800W utilizes HTC's ROIIR technology, which combines the use of a trackball and track wheels to make map browsing and web surfing similar to using a computer mouse, the sources said, noting that the company will also market the P800W in some markets in Asia-Pacific.
So get ready for the Dopod's release sometime next month.
