KT Google Nexus One with Froyo Coming Soon

As you already expected, the Google Nexus One is the first Android smartphone to run Android 2.2 Froyo and it looks like Google's flagship, and only, Android device is going to hit KT soon with Froyo on board.

The South Korean carrier is apparently more than ready to bring the Android 2.2-enabled Nexus One to its subscribers. The device will be available for 699,600 won, or about $576 but the good news is that you won't have to sign a new contract with KT.

Android Froyo Available for Nexus One But Not Official?

We've seen the Android 2.2 Froyo SDK emerge last week after Google I/O and soon enough the new Android version was ported to the Google Nexus One. Video: Froyo Browser Speed Test With Flash

Video: Froyo Browser Speed Test With Flash

Flash 10.1 is here for Android in the Android 2.2 Froyo update, but not only that, the Android browser is faster than every other mobile browser, that should make Android fanboys quite a happy bunch knowing their beloved platform is maturing quite handsomely. Sadly, there is a draw back here, with Flash 10.1 installed, the browser speed is slower than other competing mobile browsers and this might force some people to uninstall Flash from their Nexus One for the time being.

PocketNow tested the Google Nexus One against the iPhone 3GS, and the HTC HD2 where browser load times are concerned, from what we can tell from the video, the Nexus One suffers in speed compared to the other handsets when loading a page with Flash content, note that the iPhone 3GS and HTC HD2 does not load Flash content in the browser. However, when not loading Flash content, the Nexus One browser is obviously faster that Mobile Safari and Opera Mobile, this is so because the browser uses the same rendering engine as that of Google Chrome.

Google Shaves $200 Off the Nexus One Equipment Recovery Fee

Google Shaves $200 Off the Nexus One Equipment Recovery Fee

The Google Nexus One is a somewhat successful phone. It has great specs and features and Google's vision of a dependable OS. But that wasn't enough to make it a hit phone. The device sold in only 80,000 units in the first month which is a really disappointing number for Google.

A number of factors influenced buyers: the 3G issues from a couple of weeks ago, the lack of multitouch and that extra Google ETF. Besides T-Mobile early termination fee Google decided to come up with its own Equipment Recovery Fee for those handsets sold for subsidized prices by T-Mobile. That extra ETF amounted to $350 which is a huge fee to pay on top of T-Mobile's ETF should one decide to ditch the contract after a while.
