The HTC Startrek is one of the much-discussed Windows mobile Smartphone at the moment. THE HTC Startrek is also known as i-Mate Smartflip, and Qtek 8500. This new device from HTC have a very recognizable slick design and unique looking keyboard.
The first impression of this device is somehow strange. Also the camera is notable directly. The the keyboard of HTC Startrek is nicely wide so that you can write SMS easily with two hands. Unfortunately the flat buttons ensure that you cannot type blindly SMS and therefore you must look at where you press.
Next new thing about this device is that it have No Mini-USB! This phone has a new plug type that we could describe as "flat Mini-USB". Most likely HTC, the manufacturer of this device, had not time, sense, money or some other reason to process ordinary Mini-USB.
Guys from pocketinfo.nl, who made the review, said that they are surprised to find only 64MB ROM and not the 128MB ROM that was expected, but the device is very fast! As to them it is probably the fastest Windows Mobile powered Smartphone until now.
Complete review you can read translated to English here or originally written in Dutch here.

THE HTC devices concern the last time as sweet broodjes the counter. Appears that mobile dates always populairder become and that a larger mass market arises there for mobile dates. Especially the HTC Magician were a very large success in the history of connected HTC devices. It is some time ago that the HTC Magician came on the market. In the meantime the HTC Wizard (i-Mate KJAM, Qtek 9100, Orange SPV M3000, t t-Mobile MDA Vario) have of course come on the market of which many people thought that it the continuator of the Magician would be. That is not therefore the case. The continuator of the Magician has been just now confessed: it is the HTC. However, can say that the HTC with regard to specifications in fact i-Mate the Wizard (KJAM) are without keyboard but with a better camera.
In that review we look at specifically to i-Mate the JAMin. I-Mate the JAMin which we for the review have got contain the final rom version (for the experts under our: these have equipped with AKU1) and can we thus test in review instead of a preview. On our JAMin we find i-Mate logo still no but also the hardware is final. For this reason the device have a black colour in contrast to his predecessor and look very luxuriously. Toch the price of the device in the range of the HTC Magician will lie and therefore under the price of the Wizard (KJAM). We know meanwhile that of the HTC JAMin no continuator will come. HTC (and therefore also i-Mate) will go further with developing the HTC Wizard and HTC Universal concept.

First impression
The first impression of this device is very well. By the luxuriously irradiation of the black outside the feeling that has you you really something beautiful in hands has where it is reflected concerning. The device sense very light and slim in comparison with our previous PDA's. The device lie nice in the hand. If we incite the device we let us find a very beautiful baffle with clear colours. What immediately is notable the speed is. Now we have meanwhile entirely got used redactie at the Pocketinfo already to our i-Mate KJAM's but must take off that it with regard to speed certainly against the JAMin. The stylus are fortunately a "normal" and no extending needle such as those of i-Mate the KJAM. What is notable also directly the knopjes under the baffle be. These now easier in review and have more functionalities have been got (about which later more). Like on all Windows mobile 2005 devices has also i-Mate the JAMin okay and a start bud. On the they side sits, instead of notes record bud, wireless manager bud so that we manage the tel., WiFi or Bluetooth put in a simple manner and from. The WiFi work very well on this device. Within little seconden we have connection with our accesspoint. Summarised we have got a very well first impression of this device. In these review we discuss the points earlier discussed deeper.

More and more i-mate phones powered by Windows Mobile 5.0 are getting Push Email upgrades recently. The newest upgraded smartphone is i-ma te JASJAR (aka HTC Universal). This new ROM upgrade launched by i-mate for the JasJar supports Push Email + remote wipe and has a new Connection Manager applet. The MSFP works almost perfectly, and the new Connection Manager is very useful.
It looks like that HTC has some problems with hardware construction of their phones because
they have not released the A2DP (stereo audio over Bluetooth support) in this update. O2 Xda Atom, for example, does not have such problem and support A2DP fully
already.
This i-mate JASJAR ROM upgrade can be download here. We wish you
happy updating!

As it looks like i-mate's ongoing collaboration with Tech Faith Wireless is starting to pick up a good head of steam with the announcement of i-mate K-JAR, the successor of HTC-sourced JASJAR.
I-mate K-JAR features QWERTY keyboard, 2.8-inch QVGA display, WiFi, Bluetooth, 128MB of ROM, 64MB of RAM, and a TI OMAP 750 CPU core ( there is no information about the speed currently ), but it lacks that all-important 3G radio its predecessor packed.
Maybe this Smartphone will fit some people but i think because of the lack of HSDPA and UMTS it has almost no selling point.
