MeeGo Mobile Platform Coming to N900 and Atom Netbook?

Nokia and Intel proudly announced a brand new mobile platform at MWC 2010 and you must surely remember it. They called it MeeGo and apparently this new Maemo and Moblin mix is ready to arrive later this year. The first targeted gadgets to run it are Nokia's N900 smartphone and an Intel Atom-based netbook.

The team working for this whole new MeeGo project expects to have it available at some point later this month which sounds more than interesting. It's actually a lot sooner than we thought and we'll be looking forward to see how MeeGo will look and feel like.

Nokia and Intel Announce MeeGo, a Moblin and Maemo Mix

Nokia and Intel have decided to continue their work together by launching a new mobile platform. MeeGo is a merger so to speak between Intel's Moblin and Nokia's Maemo Linux platforms. Just as expected the joint Intel and Nokia announcement came at MWC this year and we're already interested to see what MeeGo will bring us.

MeeGo is supposed to power smartphones, MIDs, netbooks and other mobile devices. No product has been made public so far but we're told that the best of two worlds, Moblin and Maemo, will be mixed and ultimately it is us, the customers who should benefit from Intel's and Nokia's new creations.

Intel and Nokia to Hold Joint Press Event in Barcelona?

Intel and Nokia have issued a joint invitation to a press event at MWC 2010 in Barcelona next week. Taking place on February 15 the two companies will apparently announce some kind of new gadgets developed together.

Nokia and Intel haven't exactly been working together but that might change in the years to come. Intel has some products Nokia could be interested in and Nokia can increase Intel's revenues since it is the largest mobile manufacturer in the world.

A new mobile phone in town is ready to run a brand new mobile OS. You must have heard of Intel's Moorestown CPU and of its proprietary mobile OS, Moblin. Well in case you didn't then get ready to be amazed!

While I doubt that Intel will want to really attack the mobile business, a cell phone like LG's GW990 is more than a welcome change of scenary.

Medfield is a codename for a processor currently being developed by Intel. The system-on-a-chip is supposed to be a low-power version of Intel's new Moorestown processor. The Moorestown is actually a 2-chip system conceived for usage in low-power UMPCs.
