Video: Palm Pre With Virtual Keyboard

Video: Palm Pre With Virtual KeyboardOne thing that is lacking from the Palm Pre is an on-screen keyboard, while I am no huge fans of virtual keyboards, they do come in handy when you just cannot find the time to slide out that physical keyboard just for some basic texting or whatever. Here's a video showcasing the Palm Pre with virtual keyboard, everything is a bit buggy as this thing is not from Palm themselves, hopefully it will get better.

TouchPal v4 comes with some great typing features

TouchPal v4 comes with some great typing featuresTouchPal is an innovative software keyboard powered by T+ input technology, which significantly improves the inputting experience on touchscreen handheld devices.

With TouchPal, the input speed on touchscreen can be 40 – 80 Words per Minute (WPM) without a stylus. This is even faster than the input with a hardware keyboard. TouchPal is also a winning product of the Best Software Award 2008 of Smartphone and Pocket PC Magazine, the Best Utilities Award of Orange App Store, and etc.

TouchPal v4.0 is the latest release with better performance and enhanced user experience. It still supports both predictive and precise input, with THREE layouts on one keyboard: T+, Full QWERTY, 9-key PhonePad. Below is a brief list of the new features of TouchPal v4.0.

Teksoft's Fingertouch Pro Keyboard for Windows Mobile Review

Teksoft's Fingertouch Pro Keyboard for Windows Mobile ReviewTeksoft FingerTouch Pro is one of the coolest and maybe most useful keyboards released for windows mobile platform. It is a replacement for the default WM5 or WM6 keyboard you have preinstalled. Teksoft just sent me the registration key and the first thing I need to do is to register the program, I need to go to start/settings/input, select Fingertouch Pro from the dropdown menu and select options/register and input my registration code. Now it's a full-featured program and it is ready for testing.

From the Fingertouch options menu you may set up the program with various options. They include customization of your theme (Fonts, Size, Skins and Color of the text), the layout (it can be used for resizing you keyboard or drag&drop keys wherever you want). You have also options to use the magnifier for easier text input, the fT9, a replacement of T9 text inputing method with own dicionary, or control the keyboard with gestures. Next in the options menu is Ultra Kb. It gives you the option to set up a predefind action and trigger for it, with which you can dial numbers, execute files, rotate screen, etc in just a moment. The last options are about the keyboard speed and the default input keyboard and language for it.

What Do You Think? A Virtual Keyboard?

What Do You Think? A Virtual Keyboard?

Looking at the picture I can't help but wonder if that would actually be useful to me. What I mean is that I am so used to a QWERTY keyboard that I'd have a hard time adjusting to any other kind. However it seems a cool idea and it might be just the next thing for certain mobile applications. Imagine switching back and forth from portrait to landscape. Wouldn't a vertical keyboard suit your needs? Sure it might slow you down at first but once you get used to it, it will be just another clever idea.
