Motorola Droid Camera Autofocus Issue Gets Fixed

Motorola Droid Camera Autofocus Issue Gets Fixed

In case you were not aware of it, the Droid's camera had some autofocus issues which Motorola was apparently working hard to resolve. Various Droid users have reported that the camera failed to focus and gave them red corners when taking pictures.

The problem has been quietly addressed and it looks like the Droid's camera is working again thanks to a silent firmware update. The issue should have been fixed next month on December 11 when the first official firmware update is expected to arrive.

Motorola Droid Sales Are Going Up

Motorola Droid Sales Are Going Up

Although still incomparable to the iPhone when it comes to first week sales, Motorola's second Android phone, the Droid , is doing quite well apparently. Verizon sold about 100,000 units in the opening weekend and it looks like Big Red has sold anywhere from 250,000 to 300,000 in the first week.

Neither Motorola nor Verizon have confirmed the number so far but it seems that location network developer uLocate, the makers of WHERE, has 25,000 active accounts on Droid smartphones. uLocate seems to be installed on about 10% of launch units and that's how the numbers have been calculated so far.

100,000 Droid Phones Sold in the Opening Weekend

The Droid launched last Friday and we can already say it had a very successful first weekend. Motorola and Verizon managed to sell 100,000 Droid in the opening weekend and analysts already predict that the phone will have a bright future.

Sure the Droid's first weekend can't be compared to the way the iPhone 3GS sold in its opening weekend but Motorola has a winner on its hands. Analysts predict that Motorola will sell 1 million Android phones in the last quarter of the year and that number includes both the Droid and the CLIQ.

Well it looks like neither the Droid nor the Droid Eris are the perfect phones you were expecting. Both have flaws that need to be addressed and a firmware update is going to arrive soon.

The leaked documents suggest that a first OTA update is going to be launched on December 11 while another one could follow at some point in January. In total Verizon came up with 5 pages for the Droid and 7 pages for the Droid Eris and they are filled with bugs that need to be addressed.

Motorola Plans to Launch 20 Smartphones Next Year

Motorola Plans to Launch 20 Smartphones Next Year

Motorola seems to be on a roll right now. Although its Droid hasn't confirmed yet, but it probably will, Motorola seems to have planned more than 20 phones for next year.

How many of those 20+ phones are going to be Android phones and how many are going to be Windows Mobile phones? There's no answer for this question yet. Although Motorola's CEO Sanjay Jha has confirmed the number, he didn't mention more details regarding those future smartphones.

We do know that Motorola isn't interested in Windows Mobile 6.5 and since Windows Mobile 7 is expected in the second half of 2010 we can assume that most future Moto handsets will run Google's OS.
