Mar 24 Garmin Mobile XT Navigation Software for Windows Mobile Published
Found in:Reviews, Software, GPS, Navigation, Windows Mobile, Garmin Mobile XT Navigation Software for Windows Mobile Published

Navigation software these days is one of the very much used ones when it comes to Windows Mobile devices. That's why I am sharing with you this nice review of Garmin Mobile XT for Windows Mobile made by Gears from CoolSmartphone.com.

Garmin Mobile XT is a good bit of kit, don't get me wrong. The range of options and the navigation details are great. Little tweaks like the track logs, auto dimming screen and the ability to quickly find petrol stations, hotels and cash machines in your local area are all fab. However, I was a little disappointed with some of the default settings of the program - that auto-zoom does my head in and I couldn't seem to shake off the GPS lag at times. It could that I need to adjust the baud rate on my settings, but this program sets the GPS up automatically when it can, so I'm hoping it didn't get things wrong. There's also those few niggles with the country selection but, for just over £50 with free traffic updates, you've got to work this all into the equation.

Nov 21 HTC Touch Cruise Reviewed
Found in:Reviews, Devices, HTC, Pocket PC, HTC Touch Cruise Reviewed

HTC has recently released the HTC Touch Cruise, which has more memory, fast processor, WiFi, 3.5G (HSDPA and video calling included) and even built-in GPS. And today its first review is online thanks to the Gears from coolsmartphone site.

I took this device on a day out. We decided to go to the local safari park and, I'll be honest, I had no way of knowing how to get there. I turned on the Tom Cruise (now that sounds weird) and punched in the postcode. It located me, directed me all the way and I received some emails during the journey. The combination of the wheel plus the HTC TouchFLO system makes one-handed or even one-finger operation so simple and easy - it really is the wheel reinvented. An email pops up, I click the action button, scroll the wheel around to select a mail from the list, click again and then I use the TouchFLO system to quickly hop into Internet Explorer to see what time the safari park is open until. Even better, when I get there I can take fairly brilliant photos with the 3 megapixel camera and then I can make a video call to a member of my family and say, "Look at this elephant! Woow!"

The device we tested is network free, so you can pick whatever SIM card or network you fancy and get going without any problems. Yes, obviously there's no keyboard, but there is WiFi, 3G, quad-band connectivity, video calling, GPS, microSD storage and you get a smooth experience thanks to the 400Mhz CPU. This isn't just a navigation tool, this is a capable, well designed and well thought-out device which takes the success of the HTC Artemis to the next level.

The i-mate philosophy of Innovation by Design has been used in every sense to create a product range of devices that aims to re-define the category of Windows Mobile devices. From the 520MHz Intel processor, to the XGA direct video out, from HSDPA connectivity to the 262k colour VGA LCD touch screen, every component of every device provides the latest and best in mobile phone and PDA technology.

Early this year i-mate has introduced their Ultimate line of Windows Mobile based devices. Now when they made available the Ultimate 8150 it was about time for its first review. This Windows Mobile 6 Professional powered device is one true behemoth with its 640 x 480 pixels screen, 128 MB RAM and very fast Intel Bulverde 520 MHz processor. It features the amazing Direct Video Out XGA, which acts as TV Out-External Display, enabling you to view and operate your device on almost every monitor or tv you have nearby (very important to many employers and lecturers and small companies, including large, in addition to that it would be a great benefit to the employee if the normal usage such as how to exploit this feature in the display of pictures and videos Digitalis in the apparatus on the screen television to see all the parents and friends).

The review made by ce4arab is available in Arabic only and has lots of interesting pictures, but here you can read it translated in English.

Sep 03 Opera Mini 4 beta 2 Java-based Browser Reviewed by Menneisyys
Found in:Reviews, Software, Opera Mini 4 beta 2 Java-based Browser Reviewed by Menneisyys

Werner Ruotsalainen aka Menneisyys has just wrote very nice little review of the new Opera Mini 4 Beta 2 Java-based web browser for mobile devices. The Opera Mini browser in my humble opinion is the best browser for mobile devices, of course not perfect but quite good working, and it the search of perfect browser for your need consider reading the whole review.

This browser is VERY good, particularly when you use it with a decent Midlet manager allowing for real full screen mode. Hope the authors introduce at least support for italic and the ability to, at least, going back to the original page from Favorites while downloading a new page in the background so that you can go on reading the page.

Much as there is still some room for improvement, the bugs of the old, beta1 version seem to be ALL eliminated and even if you didn’t suffer from them (because you used the IBM J9 or the Esmertec JVM and not the Tao Intent one), you’ll certainly welcome the character size and the history list / cache size improvements. If, on the other hand, you’re a Tao Intent user, you will LOVE the stability of the new Opera Mini. (Still, as has already been stated, you’re STRONGLY supposed to upgrade to Jbed – you can just install Jbed on top of your Intent Midlet manager, it’ll work just great.)

All in all, no matter whether you have a Pocket PC or a touch screen-less Smartphone, go get the new Opera Mini – you will LOVE it, I’m absolutely sure!

Aug 19 HTC P4550 Kaiser Smartphone Get a Sneak Review
Found in:Reviews, HTC, Devices, HTC P4550 Kaiser Smartphone Get a Sneak Review

Today i have presented you few reviews (HTC TouchFLO technology and the Toshiba Portege G900 Smartphone) and now it is time for the HTC's Flagship - the Kaiser. Folks at trustedreviews.com have given the HTC Kaiser quite nice look and have some pretty cool pictures and really full and detailed review about it.

In appearance the P4550 is very similar to its predecessor. It still has that sliding qwerty keyboard, still has a 2.8in 240 x 320 resolution screen and features HSDPA and 3G compatibility for lightning quick Internet speeds and video calls, on top of GPRS for times when a faster connection isn't available.....

....With the P4550, HTC has taken what was already a competent smartphone and thought really hard about how to make it better. The result is a handset that does pretty much everything you could possibly want a handset to do. It'll work anywhere in the world, has fast data connections, a qwerty keyboard for fast and comfortable messaging, a tilting screen and even a GPS receiver for satellite navigation. Most importantly HTC has managed to package it all up in a highly usable, well-constructed and not-too-tubby package. When the time comes to move away from my current mobile phone contract and upgrade from my current phone, this is going to be the handset I'll be looking to replace it with. I can't praise it any higher than that.

Aug 19 Detailed Review of the Revolutionary Technology HTC TouchFLO
Found in:Reviews, HTC, Detailed Review of the Revolutionary Technology HTC TouchFLO

I just read very detailed review with video, descriptions and many photos, of the HTC's new revolutionary technology TouchFLO. It is made by Edward J. Rutkowski for msmobiles.com and i can honestly say that his point of view for this technology is very accurate and worths reading.

TouchFLO moves forward Windows Mobile phones by taking maximum advantage of touch-screens - so that they can be used comfortably also with fingers and not just by stylus. To improve it even further one would have to add hardware support for multi-touch, but since multi-touch is not supported (yet) by Windows Mobile hardware, clearly TouchFLO is the best Windows Mobile can offer now in finger-based user interface! Adding virtual keyboard especially designed for finger-based usage could improve TouchFLO however. Apart from that HTC clearly has introduced a revolutionary technology, that is more than just a gimmick but a very useful tool that improves user experience significantly.

Aug 19 Toshiba Portege G900 Windows Mobile 6 Professional Smartphone Reviewed
Found in:Reviews, Devices, Pocket PC, Toshiba Portege G900 Windows Mobile 6 Professional Smartphone Reviewed

Arne Hess from the::unwired has made very nice review of Toshiba's latest Windows Mobile based Smartphone, the G900. This smartphone makes clear the Toshiba's intentions to compete with one of the most successful smartphones - HTC Hermes.

If only the Toshiba Portege G900 would be quadband GSM and triband UMTS, then it could be a serious world wide HTC competitor but with triband GSM and singleband UMTS, it's "only" a EMEA and APAC competitor since North American users will not be able to use UMTS and HSDPA at all. But for European and Asian users, the G900 might be the right choice. Sure, it has to compete with HTC's new Kaiser soon and the Kaiser again supports quadband GSM and triband UMTS and includes GPS furthermore. On the other hand, the Kaiser will be QVGA only while the G900 is WVGA and I have to admit, you can get used to it. Basically the G900 made me using Windows Mobile Pocket PCs more again and during the past weeks, it fully replaced my HTC Hermes. It will be a sad good bye if I have to send it back to Expansys which thankfully loaned me the device for the review.

You can read complete review of Toshiba Portege G900 here or take a look of its specifications at our device section.

Jul 24 HTC Kaiser P4550 Review
Found in:HTC, Reviews, Pocket PC, Devices, HTC Kaiser P4550 Review

Here it pops another review of the most perfect Windows Mobile Pocket PC Phone produced by HTC till that moment. It is of HTC Kaiser aka HTC P4550 and is made again by Gears from coolsmartphone.

I mentioned in my HTC Touch review that HTC seem to be pushing the envelope with their handsets at the moment. It's fair to say that HTC are adding features and functionality quicker than even Microsoft themselves. Now, with the Kaiser, HTC has thrown everything into the specifications listings - the only thing missing is the kitchen sink.

For example, GPS in on board, meaning your favourite satellite navigation programs will run without the need for extra Bluetooth sat-nav receivers. Get this handset and you can stick your Bluetooth GPS receiver on eBay, then never have to worry about charging and faffing with two seperate devices again. The HTC Kaiser - aka the HTC P4550 - is the true one-for-all device. Don't believe me? Read on.
